CFISD closes campuses for two days with Hurricane Laura on horizon

As Hurricane Laura rolls in from the Gulf of Mexico, CFISD superintendent Dr. Mark Henry made the executive decision to close all district campuses effective Wednesday, August 26 through Thursday, August 27.

“As a precaution due to Hurricane Laura, CFISD will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday, August 26 and 27. All student and staff activities are cancelled. A decision about Friday, August 28 will be made on Thursday,” Henry announced via Twitter.

Laura’s timing feels similar as Hurricane Harvey hit the Houston area three years ago almost to the day, which ultimately closed schools for two weeks and caused the city millions in damages.

Hurricane Laura is expected to make landfall along the Texas-Louisiana border Wednesday night, and meteorologists project it to be a category three hurricane when it hits. At the same time, tropical storm Marco was ready to pack a 1-2 punch for the Gulf Coast, but became a tropical depression shortly after landfall and changed course.
