Deadpool and Wolverine are a dynamic duo many Marvel fans have been anticipating to come to the big screen. So, when the movie was announced hopes were extremely high. According to the fans, their expectations were more than matched.
The movie starts with Wade Wilson, AKA Deadpool, living his new found life outside of X-Men and getting himself into curious situations. This new life doesn’t last long as Wade is brought back into the life of heroism when the TVA, or Time Variance Authority, bring him into the loop about their search for a new anchor after the death of their worlds Logan. He honors himself with the name of “Marvel Jesus” and sets out to find a Wolverine variant to aid him in his attempt to save the world which is shown in a beautiful montage of Wade getting suited up once more.
In their journey to save the world, Wade and Logan have more than one altercation with each other. Going through their character development, Logan wants to be left alone and wallow in his self-pity while Wade wants to be better while still keeping up with his obscene humor and antics
Now, why does everyone love this team-up so much? Besides the fact that it is more than iconic, their personalities mesh perfectly and everyone loves to see this. They resemble two best friends who love to bicker but still care about each other at the end of the day. We get to see this relationship flourish throughout the movie, where in the end, Wolverine finally finds it within himself to fight for a cause bigger than himself after getting burned by his past actions.
Coming out strong, on the domestic opening “Deadpool & Wolverine” made over 200 million. Later, it would make one billion worldwide, earning the title of top lifetime grosses by Motion Picture Association for a movie rated R.
In the end, both Wade and Logan found their purpose in the world together, which is what I feel the movie was trying to convey to fans. Life gets hard, sometimes to the point where we feel there is no purpose in doing anything, but we have to get up and find that purpose again. Marvel continues to push positivity to its fans through high risk, action packed, old fashioned superhero cliches.
