The Summer I Turned Pretty, a recently completed Amazon Prime series, has captivated viewers everywhere. It quickly gained popularity with its feeling of nostalgia, emotional soundtrack, plot twists, and constant drama.Many young viewers like the show because they feel like it introduces different perspectives on complex situations.
“I like it because it’s very entertaining, and every time they post a new episode, there’s something new happening,” Junior Janell Mintah said.
As the series went on, many fans had an ongoing war, fighting and claiming which brother was better for Isabel (Belly). Some fans prefer Jeremiah because of his fun, carefree, and spontaneous nature. Others prefer Conrad because of his maturity, intelligence, and his strong connection to Belly, which can’t be easily manipulated.
“I prefer Conrad over Jeremiah because he’s more knowledgeable and mature compared to Jeremiah. I think Jeremiah’s kind of childish”, Mintah said.
Some viewers dislike Belly, describing her as unrealistic, immature, a poor decision maker, and having a lack of accountability. Others disagree with these statements, defending Belly as a young woman struggling to navigate and understand complex feelings and relationships.
“I don’t like Belly because it’s very odd to go for two brothers and go back and forth between them. I feel like it’s kind of disrespectful too”, Mintah said.
Many fans love the show because of the constant drama and unique portrayals of a first love and heartbreak, not to mention the cliff hangers and plot twists surrounding the characters’ complex relationships. More mature fans love the show because it brings a sense of nostalgia, reminding them of their past.
“I think it’s such a hit because it’s a very entertaining and crazy show to watch. And the way this storyline is played out, it makes me want to know more about what’s going to happen next”, Mintah said.
Because of the constant relationship drama and classic misunderstandings, many fans find themselves coming back and watching more. They love the thrill of watching a dramatic romance unravel.
“I think this show is such a hit because it really indulges the audience”, McBride said.
The majority of the fans consists of teens and young adults who may or may not have read the books. Some changes were made to the show, containing some more intense details than the book may have let on. Many fans enjoy the love triangle, summery theme, and coming-of-age storyline.
