Fun activities to do in Houston

The winter season is finally here and Houston is plentiful of activities to try. If you are looking for fun things to do with your friends and family during this season, you have come to the right place! Here is a list of my top favorite things to do in Houston that are COVID-friendly.

Picnic at Hermann Park
One of my personal favorite picnic spots here in Houston. Hermann Park is a great location for a fun and quick socially distanced brunch or evening out with friends. You can bring your own blankets, refreshments, and food to enjoy. Food trucks are also available on weekends.

Rules and Regulations: No pets. Outside food is allowed, but glass containers are prohibited.
Cost: Free!
When is it open?: 6 am-11 p.m. daily
COVID Safety Precautions: All visitors must cohere to social distance and mask guidelines. Picnic at your own risk.

Showboat Drive-In
Cozy up with blankets, snacks, and hot cocoa all in the comfort of your own car. This socially distanced movie theater allows for you to watch both old and new movies while experiencing this rare and very cold Texas weather. The Showboat offers a great movie night experience for all ages.

Rules and Regulations: Must purchase tickets beforehand. Turn off the car engine when parked. Do not sit on top of your vehicle. Tune in the audio through your car radio to hear the movie.
Cost: Tickets are $8 for ages three and up.
When is it open? Time may vary depending on weather conditions and the time the sunsets.
COVID Safety Precautions: Masks are required when outside of your vehicle. Vehicles must be distanced six feet apart.

Discovery Green Ice Skating Rink
Centered around Downtown Houston, Discovery Green is a great location for ice skating with friends. This rink provides skaters a fun skating experience in an unusual environment. Did you know that Discovery Green is one of the only outside ice skating rinks in Houston?

Rules and Regulations: Skaters must wear masks at all times. Tickets must be purchased online beforehand.
Cost: $15 ticket admission. Can skate on Monday’s for $8.
When is it open?: Opening on November 13 and running all the way through January 31. Monday-Thursday 5-10 p.m./Fridays 5-11 p.m./Saturdays 11 a.m.-11 p.m./Sunday 11 a.m.-8 p.m.
COVID Safety Precautions: A waiver needs to be filled out for each skater. The arena will only be open at 50 percent.

River Oaks Christmas Lights
A perfect way to get into the holiday spirit is by visiting River Oaks. Visitors are welcome to walk up and down the trendy and modern River Oaks neighborhood while experiencing the cold weather and beautiful lights. Whether you decide to stay in your car or choose to walk around the area, this is a fun place to hang out. River Oaks provides great picture opportunities and phenomenal places to eat and shop with friends.

Rules and Regulations: Wear a mask and keep in mind of social distancing rules.
Cost: City lights are free, but I must add, you may be tempted to splurge on all of the cool restaurants, dessert places, and thrifts shops this part of town has to offer.
When is it open?: From 5-11 p.m. every day.
